Avocado

The avocado (Persea americana) is a tree native to Mexico and Central America, best known for its large, single-seeded berry fruit. Botanically classified as a large berry, the fruit features rich, buttery, greenish-yellow flesh packed with healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, and essential vitamins.

Storage

Unripe Avocados: Keep them on the counter at room temperature (around 65°F to 75°F) out of direct sun. They take 3 to 5 days to soften. Speed up ripening by placing them in a paper bag with a banana or apple.

Cut Avocados: Rub fresh lemon or lime juice over the exposed green meat to stop quick browning. Press plastic wrap, beeswax wrap, or a silicone saver directly onto the surface to block air.Seal the wrapped half in a small container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Usage

Avocados are rich, creamy fruits used in cooking, baking, and skin care. You can use them to make dips, blend them into smoothies, swap them for butter or mayonnaise, or apply them as a moisturizing face mask.
