Training The Next Generation of Farmers

Ave 33 Farm offers seasonal high school and college internship, offering workforce development opportunities for youth in our community and training the next generation of farmers. Interns gain hands-on experience from seeding to working at our weekly farmstand, offering a wide variety of experiences resulting in career pathways into the diverse agricultural field. Their time with us develops their understanding of food access and deepens their investment in local food systems.

From Our Interns

[The farm] has created a deeper connection to food systems and the people and the players it takes to make it function. I liked how Sarah wanted to highlight the different farms [we work with], because that’s also important. When we go to a grocery store, we don’t know where the produce comes from. Also food systems like how everyone came together during the EBT cuts and how people were willing to show up and donate boxes to [folks that] wouldn’t have been able to get it. It’s made it more tangible, seeing something that we can transition into on a larger scale, of locally sourced produce.
— Adriana, Fall 2025 Intern
I learned mostly about talking to people and planting. I’m really shy when it comes to people, like even asking a question. That’s why tallying helped me be a little more confident.
— Aidan Araujo, Fall 2024
I’m starting to donate extra produce to food banks so I want to learn cleaning methods to process and bag food before giving them to organizations. And [this internship] helped a lot by teaching all that food safety.
